DesignFest (@designfesttr) is the game design festival (for high schools) my school @uskudaramericanacademy arranges, and its theme was retro games. People make retro-style games using Unity. I was one of the organizers of the festival. I 3D designed & printed the awards for the winners of the competition.
It is jury’s, @gramgs ‘s, special award. Mario on its power box. Mario part of the prize is from @Thingiverse by @john_wilhelm_is_a_photoholic . I first designed a wall under Mario, then electronically painted it using @Microsoft‘s Paint3D. Then, I designed the one with the power box.
For painting the letters, I used the castable 3D printing resin of @3bfab. I first cured the award under UV light because the part is printed using an SLA 3D printer, then I filled the hollow letters with the castable resin as best as I could, but it colored its surrounding area. If you will try doing this, don’t try to clean it with IPA because it dissolves the resin in hollows too which then causes emptiness in some hollows. Try to clean with dry paper towel only if it is excessively colored. Then, I 3D printed a fixture from an FDM 3D printer to make the surface with letters lay flat during curing. After the letters were cured, I sanded the surroundings, which was painted with the castable resin, to get the white color back again.
Special thanks to @ilgxn for the last photo, and @Mervekopuzturkmen for painting.
I 3D designed it using @SolidWorks. I 3d printed it using @Formlabs .
